On a dark and stormy night Lady Rebecca Gildersleeve is fleeing from her father and a marriage of inconvenience. Having become addicted to gambling after her mother's death, Becca's father lost her in a game and now she must pay the price for his debt. She plans to escape to a convent if need be to insure that the marriage never takes place. When debris from the storm causes her carriage to become overturned, she and her abigail are rescued by a mysterious stranger.

Count Klaus Lindgren appears seemingly out of nowhere and quickly helps Becca to the safety of his home. What Becca does not know is, Klaus is no Count, but an immortal Prince of the Fossegrim (male entities who live in waterfalls and protects them). Once every generation Klaus must impregnate a mortal woman to beget an heir, and leave her to raise the child alone. He has always done his duty, but he is captivated by Becca and the more time he spends with her, the more he does not want to leave her side.

THE WATERLORD was a thoroughly enchanting tale, one which is also fraught with plenty of dramatic tension as the couple had many obstacles thrown in their path to happiness. Klaus was a sexy and enigmatic hero, he faced many dangers and the wrath of his gods for the love of Becca. Becca in turn did everything in her power to help the man she loves while facing many difficulties herself.

Klaus and Becca were terrific protagonists, they were both strong willed and brave, facing every challenge imaginable to be with each other. Their chemistry was electric and erotically charged. There were many hurdles to overcome and it almost seemed like they would not get their happily ever after, but they do and it is all the more satisfying because of the danger involved.

I very much enjoyed the importance of water in the novel, and Dawn's descriptions made me wish I was there to enjoy the beauty of the falls. I was also very charmed by the Irrbloss, whose presence brought a very whimsical touch to an already magical tale.

THE WATERLORD has the perfect blend of the historical and paranormal. It is sure to please fans of both genres, a completely engrossing tale.
