Robert Houghton, Earl of Singleton was prepared he thought for anything but time travel surely was not one of them.  While he lay crippled from a wound he received in a dueling incident Robert is transported by a wily spirit to the Scottish Highlands five centuries earlier than the time he knew and resided.  In exchange for having use of his legs restored he agrees to be entrusted with the crusade of helping Jenna MacReynold fight off the cruel and vindictive Murton laird of the Carrick Clan. Who lusts for her sister and aims to kill Jenna to take Caitlin as his wife.  While Robert knows he must not only recover his strength, he must devise a plan of survival for both Jenna and himself.  The spirit throws in a few surprises including having to survive and communicate without the use of his voice. He cannot speak to anyone but Jenna and with all the other complications that just adds to the stress of staying alive in a place he is totally unfamiliar with.

Taking refuge and hiding from those that imprisoned and tortured him, he recovers from his injuries and helps Jenna be free from the demons that haunt her both physically and mentally. But just when it seems everything will come to a happily ever after, Murton finds them and in order to again survive Robert must believe in the unbelievable in order to travel “back to the future” with Jenna to Robert’s time.

Always and Forever by Pamela Labud is a great read, although I found it a little slow in some spots and over detailed in others.  The love that is felt between the characters is well depicted and you feel the strife and panic as both characters are in a unfamiliar time with new emerging emotions.  I enjoyed this novel and found it worth reading as the author portrayed a realistic approach to medieval Scottish life with two characters daring to believe in love, something that many readers will appreciate and thoroughly enjoy.
